Vietnam will celebrate the country’s 70th birthday this year with a grand parade and 21-gun salute in Hanoi.

The government announced at a press conference in Hanoi that the activities will be held on the morning of Sep. 2  the National Day. Cannons will be fired from the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long during the flag-salute ceremony as part of the National Day celebrations, followed by the grand parade with around 30,000 people representing the armed forces, war veterans, workers, farmers, businesspeople, youths, women and ethnic groups living across the country.

LED displays will be installed along the streets where the parade will take place, including Nguyen Thai Hoc, Kim Ma, Lieu Giai, Hang Khay and Trang Tien.

To reduce traffic congestion, Lieutenant-general Le Van De of the Ministry of Public Security advised people to stay at home to watch the parade on television.
