The Observatory is Forced to Move

Written by

After an extensive and successful run at their present space, underground night club venue The Observatory is upping sticks to a new, yet-to-be-confirmed venue.

Says founder, Dan Bi Mong: “Because of the future transformation of the port area, the government is taking our building back. As far as I know, Vinhomes will rebuild this area. It’s the same issue to what happened to Cargo last year.”

For those concerned about the upcoming programme of events, according to Dan, there’s no need to worry. This weekend’s set of shows, which include the Bangkok Weekend Show with Boogie G (Nite Ride) and Hibiya Line (Friday, Sep. 1), and the Bangkok Weekend Show Part 2 (Saturday, Sep. 2), will continue as normal at the present venue.

The rest of the September programme will be run as planned, but at “different venues in the city”. More info will follow in the coming week.

“We knew that we would need to move at some point but not this soon,” says Dan. “The plan is to reopen the club, probably with 2 smaller rooms that can be combined for larger events, and also to run a bar again, possibly with a restaurant open all week. We’d also like to have a gallery space like we had in the first venue, which will serve as a multipurpose space for different types of cultural events.”
