U.S. citizens will now have to wait for about six weeks to be able to get a new, longer-duration visa, compared to the current three-month single-entry one to enter Vietnam. But the payback is that Vietnam will issue 12-month, multiple-entry visas to American citizens who travel temporarily to Vietnam for business or tourism.
Unveiled last month by Vietnam’s lawmaking National Assembly, the new visas are expected to come into force in late May or early June. U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius hailed the visa extension as “the latest in a series of developments which will bring the U.S. and Vietnam closer together.”
